Kishorit

Kishorit is a home for life in the Western Galilee for adults with special needs.  Within this supportive community, members enjoy a full and independent life, and the chance to mature and grow old with grace and dignity.  Kishorit offers members meaningful employment, a wide range of leisure time activities, private living quarters, medical supervision, nursing care, and opportunities for integration into the broader community.
At Kishorit, we believe that people with special needs can live their best lives in a creative, productive community that fosters an active, healthy lifestyle.  We believe that significant, satisfying employment builds self-esteem and is an important part of the rehabilitation process and a necessary step towards greater independence.

Kishorit boasts a wide range of employment centers from agriculture (organic crops and animals) to industry, from communications to the service sector.   These centers offer meaningful employment to our members and help generate revenue for our community.
The Kishorit winery is one of our employment centers.  It employs five members on a regular basis who are supervised by the professional staff.  During the planting, harvest, and bottling seasons, dozens of additional members join the winery team.

Kishorit was established in 1994 by a group of parents and professionals whose goal was to build an innovative, supportive community.  Today, more than 160 adults with special needs live in Kishorit, and 56 adolescents study at the Ziv Kishorit Democratic High School – a non-residential day school in Kishorit that services teenagers with mental illnesses from across the North of Israel.
